Project Manager – Auction Operations Hamilton-Maring Auction Group Location: Dexter, Minnesota ________________________________________ Position Summary The Project Manager – Auction Operations is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of auction events while ensuring exceptional customer service and efficient daily operations. This role requires strong organizational skills, leadership ability, sales experience, and extensive knowledge of agricultural equipment and auction processes. The Project Manager will manage inventory, lead a small operations team, develop customer relationships, identify new auction opportunities, and assist with auction setup and execution at the Dexter, Minnesota auction facility and off-site auction locations. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys working with customers, equipment, and people while managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Auction Operations & Project Management • Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of assigned auction projects from initial setup through completion. • Manage multiple auction projects while ensuring deadlines, customer expectations, and company standards are met. • Coordinate with auctioneers, office staff, customers, and operations employees to ensure successful auction events. • Assist with auction setup, equipment organization, lot layout, signage, and event preparation. • Travel to off-site auction locations as needed to assist with setup, operations, and teardown. Inventory Management & Equipment Operations • Manage all consigned inventory from arrival through final pickup. • Maintain accurate inventory records, equipment locations, and auction information. • Ensure equipment is properly identified, tagged, photographed, described, and organized for sale. • Assist customers with locating equipment and answering questions regarding equipment features, specifications, and condition. • Develop a strong understanding of agricultural equipment makes, models, features, and market values. • Safely operate and move heavy equipment as needed, including: o Skid loaders o Wheel loaders o Tractors o Combines o Sprayers o Planting equipment o Tillage equipment o Trucks and trailers o Other agricultural and construction machinery • Assist customers with equipment loading and unloading before and after auctions. Sales & Customer Relationships • Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective customers. • Identify and pursue new auction opportunities and consignments. • Meet with customers to evaluate equipment and explain the auction process. • Provide professional communication and exceptional customer service throughout the auction process. • Represent Hamilton-Maring Auction Group within the agricultural and equipment community. Team Leadership & Operations Management • Lead and manage a small operations team responsible for auction preparation and daily tasks. • Assign responsibilities, prioritize workloads, and ensure projects are completed efficiently. • Monitor employee schedules, hours, and task completion. • Train and support team members on equipment handling, inventory procedures, and auction processes. • Promote a safe, organized, and productive work environment. Technology & Administrative Responsibilities • Utilize computers, mobile devices, and company software to manage inventory, communication, and auction information. • Maintain accurate records and ensure information is entered correctly and timely. • Use technology to improve efficiency in inventory management and auction operations. ________________________________________ Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: • Experience operating agricultural and heavy equipment. • Strong knowledge of agricultural equipment and machinery. • Farming experience or agricultural background preferred. • Previous agricultural sales, equipment dealership, or related industry experience preferred. • Previous auction experience preferred but not required. • Experience managing, leading, or supervising a team. • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate employees and manage daily operations. • Sales experience with the ability to build and maintain customer relationships. • Excellent communication and customer service skills. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. • Ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced environment. • Ability to use computers, mobile devices, and inventory management software. • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. • Ability and willingness to travel regularly. ________________________________________ Travel & Event Support • Travel to auction sites as needed, which may require overnight stays and being away from home for several days. • Assist with auction setup, equipment layout, signage, and event logistics at both the Dexter, Minnesota facility and off-site locations. • Work extended hours during auction preparation, sale days, and teardown. • Represent the company professionally while traveling and interacting with customers. ________________________________________ Schedule • Full-time, salaried position based out of the Dexter, Minnesota auction facility. • Expected work schedule is a minimum of 45 hours per week. • Hours vary based on auction schedules, seasonal workload, and customer needs. • Additional hours may be required during peak auction seasons. • Weekend work is required as business needs dictate, including auction events, equipment check-in/check-out, travel, and sale preparation. ________________________________________ Physical Requirements & Equipment Operation • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and in a fast-paced auction environment. • Ability to walk large auction lots and inspect equipment. • Ability to climb on and safely inspect various types of agricultural and construction equipment. • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and move throughout the workday. • Ability to safely operate and move heavy equipment. • Ability to safely load, unload, and position equipment for auction setup and customer pickup. • Ability to perform equipment inspections and understand basic equipment functions and controls. ________________________________________ Compensation • Competitive salary range of $60,000–$80,000 annually, based on experience, qualifications, industry knowledge, and level of responsibility. • Opportunities for performance-based salary increases. • Performance-based bonus opportunities are tied to individual and company performance. ________________________________________ Benefits Eligible employees receive a competitive benefits package, including: • Company-provided vehicle (2024–2026 Pickup) primarily for business use, with limited personal use permitted according to company policy. • 401(k) retirement plan after one year of employment, with up to a 3.5% company match, subject to plan eligibility requirements. • Two weeks of Paid Time Off (PTO) annually. • Minnesota Paid Family and Medical Leave benefits as provided by state law. • Three paid holidays: o New Year's Day o Thanksgiving Day o Christmas Day • Additional company-sponsored benefits available to eligible full-time employees. ________________________________________ How to Apply Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by contacting: Carter Mueller Email: Carterm@hmauction.com Phone: 507-584-0133 Please include a resume and a brief description of your experience related to agriculture, equipment, sales, leadership, or auction operations.
